Tennessee Pharmacists Association

Serving on a TPA or a society advisory or planning committee gives you the opportunity to directly engage in the association and profession. Share your experience, expertise, and passion to help the association better serve its membership and advance the profession! Committee involvement is also a great opportunity to create connections with colleagues across the state.

Each year, TPA’s president or a specific society president/chair selects pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student pharmacists from a variety of practice settings to serve on the committees below. The work of each committee align with the association’s mission and strategic plan. To view the purpose or charges to each committee, please click on the committees below.

Committee Charges: 

  • Identify potential legislative priorities & positions. 

  • Provide input on legislative & regulatory topics. 

  • Contact elected representatives when needed. 

  • Maintain confidentiality. 

Time Commitment: 

  • One hour every other week during legislative session (virtual) 

  • One hour monthly outside of legislative session (virtual) 

  • As needed responses to emails 

 

Committee Charges: 

  • Review background information thoroughly prior to meetings. 

  • Develop language to establish TPA’s stance on pharmacy issues. 

  • Respond to member questions regarding language written. 

  • Recommend policy topics for consideration. 

  • Assist in creating the Delegate Packet for TPA House of Delegates sessions, if needed. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Two in-person meetings annually in Nashville – 10am-3pm CT 

  • Review of background materials before in-person meetings 

  • Virtual meetings as needed 

  • As needed responses to emails 

Committee Charges:  

  • Recommend individuals to be considered for TPA leadership positions 

  • Slate candidates for the TPA Board of Directors 

  • Notify slated candidates 

  • Notify successful candidates and unsuccessful candidates following elections 

Time Commitment: 

  • Review of background materials ahead of in-person meeting 

  • One in-person meeting (2 hours) to slate candidates 

  • Contacting candidates after the in-person meeting 

Committee Charges: 

  • Work with TPA staff to brainstorm content and speakers for off-site meetings and in-house education/training. 

  • Generate an education calendar for 2024 with prospective topics for webinars or other CE offerings. 

  • Examine and improve member onboarding process, including content of email templates and the new member drip campaign.  

  • Assist in recruiting new members and implementing membership campaigns.  

  • Determine best method for launching new online member communities following TPA’s change of association management software. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Quarterly virtual meetings 

  • Additional interaction when planning Winter Meeting and Summer Meeting CE content 

  • Response to emails as needed 

Committee Charges: 

  • Encourage and/or seek nominations for TPA awards. 

  • Review nominations and select recipients of TPA Awards. 

  • Draft content for awards press releases.  

  • Assist in planning for the Annual Awards Banquet, including drafting scripts. 

  • Nominate TPA members for appropriate national awards and recognitions.  

  • Notify award winners.  

Time Commitment: 

  • Virtual meetings in preparation for Winter Meeting and Summer Meeting awards selection 

  • Several hours of individual work reviewing nominations/applications and drafting content for press releases and scripts 

  • Response to emails as needed 

Committee Charges: 

  • Review month-to-month financial performance of TPA and TPREF.

  • Monitor the budget and provide oversight to ensure fiscal accountability.

  • Assist in planning budget projections for the upcoming year.

  • Offer strategic financial and investment recommendations to the Boards of TPA and TREF. 

 
 

Time Commitment: 

  • Virtual meetings every 1-2 months

  • Response to emails as needed

 

Committee Charges: 

  • Create learning opportunities for members on how to enter into collaborative practice agreements. 

  • Be a resource for members who have questions about collaborative practice. 

  • Work with TPA staff on finalizing proposed updates to CPA rules. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Quarterly virtual meetings 

  • Response to emails as needed  

TPA’s society committees are critical in representing the diverse voices and practice areas within pharmacy, helping shape the association’s priorities, programs, and advocacy efforts. Volunteer members bring frontline insights and expertise that ensure TPA remains responsive, relevant, and effective in serving the profession.

Committee Charges: 

  • Work with TPA staff to brainstorm content and speakers for off-site meetings and in-house education/training. 

  • Generate an annual education calendar with prospective topics for webinars or other CE offerings. 

  • Identify educational areas of need for health-system pharmacists. 

Time commitment: 

  • Quarterly virtual meetings 

  • Additional interaction when planning Winter Meeting and Summer Meeting 

  • Response to emails as needed 

Committee Charges: 

  • Examine and improve member onboarding process. 

  • Determine best method for launching new online member communities following TPA’s change of association management software 

  • Identify key targets for membership growth, including corporate/employer group membership packages. 

  • Promote membership models and engagement opportunities to key stakeholders utilizing available resources and listservs. 

  • Work with TPA Membership Engagement Committee to build connections with district pharmacy associations and identify local leaders. 

  • Interpret needs of TSHP members and how TPA can fill gaps.  

Time Commitment: 

  • Quarterly virtual meetings 

  • Response to emails as needed 

Committee Charges: 

  • Encourage and/or seek nominations for TPA/TSHP awards. 

  • Select recipients of TSHP-specific Awards. 

  • Draft content for awards press releases.  

  • Assist in planning for the Annual Awards Banquet, including drafting scripts. 

  • Nominate a TPA/TSHP members for national awards or recognitions.  

  • Notify award winners.  

Committee Charges: 

  • Evaluate the TSHP Strategic Plan. 

  • Consider how TPA/TSHP can work together to achieve goals listed in the Strategic Plan. 

  • Provide direction to TPA/TSHP leadership and TPA staff to take action on items in the Strategic Plan. 

  • More charges may arise as the cycle continues at the discretion of the committee chair and TSHP President.  

Committee Charges: 

  • Plan the annual Tennessee Residency Showcase. 

  • -Date, location, potential sponsors, CE for preceptors, programming for student/resident attendees 

  • Discuss trends in residency programs. 

  • -Application processes, interview formats, board exam pass rates, resident projects, etc 

  • Develop resources for residency programs in Tennessee 

Committee Charges: 

  • Slate candidates for TSHP executive committee positions.  

Time Commitment: 

  • One virtual meeting annually 

Purpose: 

  • Networking opportunities – get to know other managers 

  • Best practice sharing – discuss projects being implemented across the state 

  • Support – discuss issues such as drug shortages and how other hospitals have managed 

  • Enhanced regulatory compliance – review sites that have had recent surveys from TJC, BOP, etc and share findings 

  • Software & equipment reviews – discuss pros/cons of equipment or software that has been implemented 

Purpose: 

  • Convene TPA members who serve as clinical coordinators to discuss hot topics and practice trends. 

Purpose: 

  • Assess and enhance TPA resources to better support managed care pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. 

  • Recommend educational topics and strategic priorities, serving as subject matter experts, and identifying synergies between TPA and AMCP Mid-South events. 

  • Expand TPA’s managed care pharmacy network by identifying and engaging non-member pharmacists. 

  • Advocate for policies that support managed care pharmacy at both legislative and regulatory levels. 

  • Address barriers to medication access and utilization, while providing consistent messaging to third-party payers across the state. 

  • Establish future committee objectives to ensure continued impact and relevance. 

  •  

Purpose: 

  • Serve as a resource and voice for members practicing in or interacting with the specialty pharmacy space across Tennessee. 

  • Monitor and advise TPA on key trends, regulations, payer issues, and challenges affecting specialty pharmacy practice. 

  • Support initiatives to advance patient access, outcomes, and affordability within specialty medication therapy. 

  • Collaborate with other TPA committees on educational programming, professional development, and advocacy efforts relevant to specialty pharmacy. 

  • Provide expert feedback to inform TPA’s policy positions and engagement with stakeholders, including regulators and payers. 

Event planning committees are essential to the success of TPREF’s fundraising and TPA member engagement efforts, bringing creativity, connections, and hands-on support to every detail. Volunteers play a vital role by lending their time, talents, and ideas to help create memorable experiences and advance the mission of the association and TPREF.

Purpose: 

  • Plan, promote, and execute TPA’s annual Golf Classic to raise funds for the Tennessee Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation (TPREF). 

  • Identify and secure sponsorships, donations, and in-kind support to maximize fundraising impact. 

  • Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, player recruitment, and volunteer needs. 

  • Collaborate with TPA staff to market the event and ensure a high-quality experience for participants. 

  • Evaluate event outcomes and provide recommendations for future improvements and growth. 

Purpose: 

  • Plan and coordinate the annual Songwriter’s Night fundraiser benefiting the Tennessee Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation (TPREF). 

  • Identify and recruit performers, sponsors, and partners to enhance the event’s appeal and fundraising success. 

  • Oversee event logistics including venue selection, ticket sales, promotion, and attendee experience. 

  • Collaborate with TPA staff to market the event to members, supporters, and the broader community. 

  • Assess event success and recommend strategies to grow impact and engagement in future years.
