TPA learned recently that Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner John Dreyzhener, M.D., have been encouraging Tennesseans to get a flu shot. Their promotional information has been referring everyone to use the website for HealthMap Vaccine Finder to locate a vaccination near them: http://flushot.healthmap.org
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) also refers individuals to this site in some of its national flu shot promotional materials, as well as through other websites, such as vaccines.gov and flu.gov.
When interested citizens go to the site and type in their address, a map appears along with a list of sites where they can receive a flu shot. Most chain pharmacies have already signed up on this site to be listed as vaccine providers. In reviewing the site, TPA noted that many independent community pharmacies in Tennessee do not appear on the flu shot HealthMap of their area.
If you would like to list a pharmacy, you will first need to register for an account.

About HealthMap Vaccine Finder
HealthMap Vaccine Finder is a free, online service where users can search for locations that offer immunizations. HealthMap Vaccine Finder works with partners such as clinics, pharmacies, and health departments to provide accurate and up-to-date information about vaccination services. The goal is to make it simple for users to find a place to be immunized.
Google originally created the Flu Vaccine Finder in response to the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. In early 2012, Google passed the baton to HealthMap and has worked closely with HealthMap in creating the new HealthMap Flu Vaccine Finder. By 2013, HealthMap expanded to cover 10 additional adult vaccines and relaunched the site as HealthMap Vaccine Finder.
HealthMap Vaccine Finder is maintained by HealthMap, a team of researchers, epidemiologists and software developers at Boston Children’s Hospital.
